How the size data is read and compared
The rules behind every number on this site, with the counts they produce today.
Where the numbers come from
Only from a brand's own website: its size guide, help pages or official PDF. Values are kept as printed. Retailers, blogs and other size sites are not used, and a gap is reported rather than filled. The source register lists all 322 charts with their page and read date.
Two kinds of centimetres
Brands print two different things in a "cm" column: a measured foot length, or the size in centimetres, as Japanese sizes do. They are about 8 mm apart per size, so they are compared only with themselves. Each column is judged from its numbers, against the standard US men's scale (size = 3 × foot length in inches − 22):
- measured: the median gap to that scale is under 4.5 mm (94 length columns).
- size: the gap is over 6 mm (208 columns).
- unclear: the numbers do not settle it, so the column is never matched (32 columns).
40 charts have no length column and can only be read by their size labels. A scale can also be set by hand when a brand's page says what the column means.
Why matches stop at 3.5 mm
A size in one brand is matched to the size in another whose listed length is closest, only on the same scale and only within 3.5 mm. In the charts with a measured foot length, neighbouring rows are a median 5 mm apart, so the limit is below one step. It is our choice, not a standard: a tighter limit would leave many sizes without a match, and a wider one would present a different size as the same. Matched rows show the difference in mm.
What is counted, and how
Conversion tables count one value per brand and never average. A range printed by a brand stays a range and is not used for length matching.
What the data cannot tell you
- Nothing here was measured on shoes. These are the brands' tables.
- A brand-wide chart does not describe the last of one model.
- A read date means the chart was compared with the official page that day. It does not say the brand has not changed it since.
Who publishes this
